Position Overview
The Laboratory Technician plays an important role in supporting Blacklidge’s commitment to producing high-quality asphalt products by performing Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QC/QA) testing on asphalt emulsions and related materials. This is an entry-level opportunity designed for a motivated individual interested in developing a career in asphalt materials testing and quality assurance. Previous laboratory experience is not required; however, relevant laboratory experience is a plus. Blacklidge provides extensive on-the-job training, including an approximately six-month initial training and development period covering laboratory procedures, testing methods, equipment operation, product specifications, quality standards, and documentation requirements. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and capable of remaining focused and productive in a deadline-driven laboratory environment. Overtime may be required based on testing and operational needs, sometimes with limited notice.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control & Laboratory Testing
- Perform QC/QA testing on asphalt emulsion products and related materials
- Conduct testing according to established methods, procedures, and product specifications
- Monitor test results and promptly communicate potential quality concerns
- Complete assigned testing accurately and within required timelines
Documentation & Reporting
- Accurately document testing procedures, observations, and results
- Prepare and maintain electronic laboratory records and reports
- Provide management with timely daily testing results
- Maintain accurate, complete, and organized quality records
Laboratory Operations & Safety
- Learn to properly operate sophisticated laboratory instruments and testing equipment
- Maintain laboratory equipment, workstations, and testing areas in a clean and organized condition
- Handle samples, asphalt products, and laboratory materials safely and responsibly
- Follow all laboratory procedures, safety requirements, and PPE standards
Training & Development
- Complete an extensive initial training program of approximately six months
- Develop proficiency in asphalt testing methods, equipment, procedures, and product specifications
- Continuously improve technical knowledge, testing accuracy, and efficiency
- Demonstrate accountability, initiative, and a willingness to learn
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college education preferred
- Basic computer proficiency; Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel experience preferred
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine physical laboratory activities
- Ability and willingness to work overtime as required, sometimes with limited notice
Compensation
